Summer Arts Institute

Berkeley's Summer Arts Institute has something for every budding artist!  Camps are led by expert-level performing and visual arts professionals from within Berkeley Preparatory School and the greater Tampa Bay area!

  • Artists of Tomorrow, Jr.

    AOT JR. is the place for younger campers to experience a little of everything in the arts! Throughout the week, campers will create works of art, experience instruments and music of all kinds, play theatrical games, and invent creative movement pieces. Every Friday there will be a live performance showcasing the work of our artists!

    Each week centers around a different theme that results in a unique weekly experience. Campers can sign up for one week, a few weeks, or all seven!

    Themes:
    Week 1 - Out of This World
    Week 2 - The Magic of Disney
    Week 3 - Splish Splash
    Week 4 - Pirates and Princesses
    Week 5 - Amazing Animals 
    Week 6 - Pop Stars
    Week 7- Superheroes

    This is a full-day camp for one week or a half-day option ending at lunch time.  A hearty lunch provided by Sage Dining Services is an add-on option for this camp.

    Weeks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 (incoming Pre-K-1st graders)

    About the Program Leader
    Mandee Ansinelli Kane has been an elementary school teacher for the past 18 years, while also raising her now 3 teenagers.  Her passion for childhood education is evident in her engaging and creative classroom environment. She attended Berkeley for 10 years and graduated from The University of South Florida with a degree in Elementary Education and a focus on child psychology.  She also could be found from the age of seven to sixteen on the stage singing, dancing, and acting.  Mandee is committed to providing all students this summer a rewarding, artistic, and fun experience. 
  • Artists of Tomorrow

    Artists of Tomorrow is the perfect place for the camper who loves all things art!   This weekly program for rising second through fifth graders allows students to explore an endless variety of projects and activities and dabble in different artistic experiences. Throughout the week, campers will create visual art projects, experience instruments and music of all kinds, produce short films, write scripts, play theatrical games, invent creative movement pieces, and more! Every Friday there will be an art display and a live performance showcasing the work of our artists!

    Each week centers around a different theme that results in a unique weekly experience. Campers can sign up for one week, a few weeks, or all three!

    Week 2 - Circus Adventures
    Week 4 - Swifties!
    Week 5 - Happy Holidays!

    This is a one-week session. A hearty lunch provided by Sage Dining Services is an add-on option for this camp.

  • Level Up Acting

    Register Now

    Get ready to engage your child’s imagination with this week long acting intensive! In this program, your child will embark on a theatrical journey to bring all sorts of characters to life! They will learn how to travel to new worlds and become whoever they wish to be! Students will learn elements of theatre, film acting, comedy, script writing, directing, technical theatre, and more! On Friday there will be a performance for parents to attend to showcase the actor’s amazing work!

    No previous acting experience is necessary to join this camp.

    This is a one-week session. A hearty lunch provided by Sage Dining Services is an add-on option for this camp.

Shayna earned a Bachelor of Art in Theatre Arts from Florida State University and a Master of Science in Education from John’s Hopkins University. She is so happy to be able to combine her passion for the arts with her love for childhood development and education. She is dedicated to providing a rich and engaging experience for all participants and helping students foster their artistic and intellectual growth.
  • Broadway at Berkeley

    Get ready for a week of singing, acting, and dancing! This week-long camp will help your child’s confidence grow as they shine onstage! Whether your child already loves being in the spotlight, or is searching for a way to push their comfort zone, this camp will provide a fun and encouraging environment to help them connect with their inner star! In this camp, students will receive dance, music, and acting lessons while learning various musical theatre performance pieces to share at a final showcase on Friday!

    This is a one-week session. A hearty lunch provided by Sage Dining Services is an add-on option for this camp.

  • Artrageous!

    Artrageous camp is an exciting, week long visual art camp experience where students will explore a variety of art making techniques; including painting, drawing, printmaking, 3D sculpture and more. During this week-long art camp, students will create big, bold, ARTRAGEOUS projects designed around this years theme: Under the Sea! This camp is sure to satisfy their artistic and creative curiosity alongside students of all ability levels with teachers and staff who have a true passion for visual art!

    This is a one-week session. A hearty lunch provided by Sage Dining Services is an add-on option for this camp.

    About the Program Leader
    Sabreena Jeru-Ahmed is an art educator with nearly 30 years of experience teaching art in New York, Maryland and Washington DC. She has enjoyed teaching art at Berkeley Preparatory Lower School since August of 2020, when she moved to Tampa to be close to her Florida family. Sabreena relishes providing fun and enriching art experiences for students utilizing a wide variety of materials and techniques, whether as part of the school day, afterschool clubs or summer camps. Her goal as an art teacher is to not only provide an atmosphere in her classes in which artists might develop, but to equip them with opportunities to bring an educated eye to art by exposing them to a variety of perspectives of the people and creatures with whom we share this planet.
  • Middle School Musical

    We are so excited to be launching our first ever Summer Arts Institute Middle School Musical! In this three week long musical experience, your child will audition for, rehearse, and perform a full length musical right on Berkeley Prep’s main stage! They will get the experience of a broadway star, making life-long friends and learning the ins-and-outs of musical theatre along the way. This year our production will be the hit show Seussical The Musical– a bright and colorful comedy based on the beloved stories of Dr. Suess. Regardless of your child’s experience level, Summer Arts Institute provides an encouraging environment that helps students grow their confidence and reach new heights!

    This a three-week session. A hearty lunch provided by Sage Dining Services is an add-on option for this camp.

    Weeks 5, 6, and 7 (incoming 5th - 8th graders)

Founded in 1960, Berkeley is an independent, Episcopal, college-preparatory day school located in Tampa, FL, for boys and girls in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12. Approximately 1,400 students gather here from the greater Tampa Bay area to form ONE Berkeley.
